Site Location
The Site is located in the heart of Tynemouth village, a popular coastal town in the Borough of North Tyneside. The Site consists of two distinct areas, one on the northern and the other on the southern sides of the station, connected together via a footpath along the eastern edge of the main station building.
Due to it’s strategic location, the proposal offers a fully sustainable development close to all local amenities and facilities, all of which are within easy walking distance. Given the fact that the development is directly adjacent to the Metro, this provides opportunities to connect to the wider locations of North Tyneside, Newcastle and South Tyneside, all within easy reach.
Site Description / Boundary
The northern section of the site is more secluded and will be developed as a new car park.
The area to the south of the station building will be the focus of this consultation. To the west it is bounded by the railway line under control of Nexus Rail; to the north by the listed station canopy; and to the east by public footpath which connects the station to Tynemouth Road.
Beyond this footpath there is a large stone wall with an apartment building in close proximity to the site, along with a nursery, other residential buildings and the Army reserve Building. To the south of the site there is a stone wall which is part of the listed station building. Tynemouth Road sits along the southern edge.
Both parcels of land are vacant and have been for a number of years. Historically both formed part of the station and the siding associated with the railway.
